Royal Air Forces Association
21-22 Alexandra Parade,
The work of the RAF Association
The RAF Association is here to help the whole Royal Air Force family, providing friendship, help and support to current and former members of the Royal Air Force and their dependants.
You do not need to be a member to receive our help; the RAF Association can help you if you served for just one day in the RAF are currently serving within the RAF and your family and dependants under 18 years
How we can help
Whether you’re a fresh recruit, a young family, are about to leave the service, or if you have started a new life after the RAF, or if you are retired, there are some ways in which we can help no matter your situation. The RAF Association can help with a range of welfare cases, some of which can be complex.
If you’re attached to a Branch we can help you through the Branch network of over 570 volunteer welfare officers and case workers and we provide a range of emotional, practical and financial support and, if we can’t help you directly we will still look after your case and we will signpost you to the relevant help that you need.
We help you while you’re serving and after you’ve retired
Our welfare help covers War pensions assistance for those who are war veterans and need to apply for compensation, we refurbish Contact Houses on stations so that families can spend time together and to help provide accommodation for families when it’s needed urgently.
We help to fund Alabare, a home for those who needed help and a fresh start helps to rebuild peoples’ lives along with funding for the Personnel Recovery Unit which provides a specialist employment consultant to help get those who are medically discharged from the RAF back into the workplace.
If you’re older we have Homes from Home around the country that help to give those in need of specialist care a break away from home in a caring, professional and hotel-like environment so that families and carers can take a break when you do. We also run sheltered accommodation in homely environments with an RAF feel to enable independent living to RAF veterans with like-minded company
Here for you when you’re deployed
When you’re deployed to Afghanistan Wings Video Mail enables you to send a video message home and make your family feel connected. With Storybook Wings you can record a favourite story for your child to listen to and we’ll edit it and make it a really special recording so that your child can listen to your voice even when you’re thousands of miles away.
